Bobby Dhanjal Foundation

Leicester is known for being a young city, 27% of the population are between the ages of 0 and 19, but one in three live within the official definition of child poverty.

Businesses are playing a key role in tackling the problem and Bobby Dhanjal Wealth Management is one of these. In 2012, company director and founder Bobby Dhanjal started up the Bobby Dhanjal Foundation for Children, under the Community Foundation umbrella. Bobby, who grew up in Leicester, was eager to give something back to his city and invest in its future.

The Bobby Dhanjal Foundation is made up of funds from personal donations and staff fundraising activity and has been set up to support disadvantaged city children between 5 and 12 years old. By setting up the fund with the Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation, The Bobby Dhanjal Foundation is also benefiting from the government’s match of £1 for every £2 donated for long term support.

Bobby Dhanjal explained, “The Community Foundation has worked with us to identify where we want to give and how we can reach people to make a difference. By creating an endowment fund we are increasing our giving by 50% and working to create a legacy for the children of Leicester”. Bobby’s foundation believes that all children, from any background, race or religion, should have the experience of playing and making new friends in a safe environment and so they select different children’s groups to help each year.

In 2013/14, The Bobby Dhanjal Foundation is supporting two local children’s charitable and voluntary groups. The first is Leicester Children’s Holiday Centre, Mablethorpe which takes city children away on a traditional seaside holiday, when their families are struggling to afford a break. The other is Goldhill Play Association, one of the six city adventure playgrounds offering local city children free adventure play in a safe, supervised space, close to home where children can thrive and enjoy the simple pleasures of a playground.

The foundation is pleased to have added another great cause to their list of supported charitable organisation for 2014, we introduce Playbarn to you.

This children’s adventure playground is located in Northfields Hamilton and West Humberstone areas of high deprivation in Leicester and provides safe stimulating activities for children aged 5-15 years.

It offers large play-areas; external structures and an indoor area where lots of exciting activities take place. Children can play by themselves, or join in the many fun things that are happening all year round.

Previous Events and Activities held:

On September 13th 2014 a fundraising bonanza is set to happen. The Allesley Hotel, Coventry is gearing up for Disco Inferno a 70’s themed ball and dinner dance. Fancy dress is optional, think flares, afro wigs and platforms! A prize for the best outfit awaits.

We have UK best soul vocalist and of course a disco, with special surprise performances. Tables of 12 are just £480, with an Indian banquet feast served. Booking a table also gives you the opportunity to have an exhibition table in the second hall.

In September 2013 The City Rooms, Hotel Street, Leicester played host to a 007 extravaganza charity fundraising event. The evening went with a real swing and saw revellers dancing to the early hours. Guests were entertained by a 3 piece showband, playing hits from the James Bond movies.

The dance floor became a stage when we had a 3 part scene from a movie professionally acted out. Modern dance group Studio 79 made jaws drop with their moves. All this plus a raffle, balloon auction, jewellery show, picture booth and silent auction.

Over £2,300 was raised by Pav Lalria, Sanjit Atkar, Myles Bennett, Lisa Dhanjal, and Kalpesh Ruparelia (pictured) on 18th May at Langar airfield.

Our ‘jumpers’ plunged from 14,000ft in perfect sunny and clear conditions. The experience was thrilling and one that we would do again in a shot. The funds raised for the Bobby Dhanjal Foundation will go a long way to help causes that support underprivileged local children. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause.
